Rolled-edge baking cup base paper is the food-grade base paper behind baking cups whose top edge is rolled into a firm rim. Muffin cups, cupcake cups and similar oven-going pastry cups of this kind are made by converters from the paper web: the roll is slit to cup widths, printed where the design calls for it, and formed into cups on high-speed machines that curl the top edge into a clean rolled rim.
As a paper supplier and sourcing partner, Bofeng supplies this base paper in rolls, matched to the grammage and width your roll-rim cup line runs. Tell us the cup style, the forming equipment and the print finish you need, and we will recommend a starting grade.
What is rolled-edge baking cup base paper
A roll-rim baking cup starts from this base paper rather than from finished cup stock. The paper is made from food-grade virgin pulp and internally sized so the sheet resists oil and moisture, with a controlled caliper and stiffness profile across the web. That combination is what the forming machine needs: paper uniform enough to roll into a smooth edge without cracking or tearing, and firm enough for the finished cup to stand upright through filling and baking.
Key material properties
- Grease and moisture resistance. Internal sizing keeps butter, oil and moisture from batter from soaking through the cup wall, so the cup keeps its shape and appearance through baking and does not stain what it touches.
- Clean roll-rim forming. Uniform caliper and controlled stiffness let the top edge roll smoothly and evenly at the speeds of modern forming machines, without cracking, tearing or wrinkling.
- Upright cup stability. Firmness is balanced so a formed cup stands upright on the tray, holds its shape when filled, and keeps a neat edge after baking.
- Heat stability. The sheet stays stable at the heat levels of ordinary baking and does not turn brittle or discolour in a normal oven cycle. The exact temperature ceiling depends on grammage and any coating, so the grade is matched to the bake.
- Food-contact safety. Food-grade materials meet food-contact safety requirements, formulated without fluorescent whitening agents; documentation for compliance review is available offline on request.
Supply forms and options
- Rolls, slit to the widths your cup-forming line runs — plain or printed to your cup artwork.
- Custom grammage, roll width and printing on request; typical grammage 80–100 gsm.
Typical end uses
Because it resists oil and moisture and forms a clean rolled rim, this base paper is commonly converted into:
- Roll-rim muffin cups
- Cupcake baking cups
- Mini and petit-four baking cups
- Seasonal, gift and custom-printed baking cups
