  • Colour: brown (natural), white

Food-grade kraft paper is the everyday kraft base of food packaging — a strong paper made from virgin wood pulp, supplied in natural-brown or white, plain or barrier-treated. It is the base stock converters print, slit and form into kraft paper bags, food wrappers, pouches and box liners for dry, bakery and takeaway food.

As a paper supplier and sourcing partner, Bofeng offers food-grade kraft in the family's two colour directions — natural brown from unbleached pulp and white from bleached pulp — on rolls or in sheets, plain or with a barrier treatment. Inside the family, the natural-brown sheet keeps kraft's warm tone and strength, while the white sheet gives a cleaner print surface; each direction is detailed on its own page below. Tell us your converting process and target end use, and we will match colour, finish, grammage and width to your line.

What is food-grade kraft paper

Kraft paper is a strong paper made on the kraft (sulphate) pulping line, where long virgin fibres give the sheet its toughness. Food-grade kraft is this base produced from clean, food-safe pulp for food-contact use. Colour is decided at the pulp stage: leaving the fibre unbleached gives the familiar natural-brown sheet; bleaching it gives a white sheet. The plain base is the default grade for dry foods and general wrapping; where a use needs a stronger hold against oil and moisture — or a heat-sealable closure — an oil-resistant treated or food-grade film-laminated variant is available, and those coated directions are covered on their own kraft pages. For the buyer, the choice is which colour and finish to run for the end use.

Key material properties

  • Strength and protection. Long kraft fibres give the sheet high tensile, tear, burst and puncture resistance, so finished packaging carries angular or heavy contents and protects them through transport and handling.
  • Two colour bases for branding. The natural-brown sheet carries kraft's warm, tactile look; the white sheet gives a cleaner canvas for colour printing. Both take flexo, offset or digital printing and cut, crease and glue well.
  • Oil and moisture behaviour. A plain kraft base holds out light grease to a useful degree; where contents are oily, moist or hot, an oil-resistant treated or laminated grade keeps grease and moisture on the surface — the coated kraft pages describe these options.
  • Printing and converting. The sheet prints cleanly and runs reliably through die-cutting, creasing, gluing and forming on fast bag-making and wrapping lines.
  • Stable in ordinary food-processing heat. The natural sheet stays stable at the heat levels of routine baking and food-packaging environments, and its fibre structure keeps some breathability, which helps bread and pastries hold their crust and stay fresh.
  • Food-contact safety. Food-grade kraft is made from virgin, food-safe pulp and meets food-contact safety requirements for direct and indirect food packaging; supporting documentation is available offline on request.

Supply forms and options

  • Rolls or sheets, natural-brown or white.
  • Plain base as standard; oil-resistant or heat-sealable treated and laminated options on request.
  • Custom grammage, slit widths and printing (brand logos, bag and wrapper layouts) on request.

Typical end uses

With the strength of kraft and food-contact grades in both colour directions, food-grade kraft is commonly converted into:

  • Kraft paper bags and sacks for bakery, produce and takeaway food
  • Bread bags, bakery and pastry liners
  • Burger, sandwich and snack wrappers
  • Food pouches, box liners and tray liners
  • Flour, sugar, grain and other dry-goods packaging
  • General wrapping and interleaving in food service and retail

Food-grade kraft splits into colour and coating directions, each with its own page: the natural-brown plain base on Food-grade Unbleached Kraft Paper, the white plain base on Food-grade White Kraft Paper, and the barrier-coated versions on Water-Based Coated Unbleached Kraft Paper and Water-based Coated White Kraft Paper.

How to order and choose

Food-grade kraft is supplied by grammage and width to match a converting line. For paper-bag producers and food-packaging converters we stock both colour directions in the common food-packaging basis-weight range, and treat, slit or print to order. Selection is two steps: choose the colour by the brand look you want — natural kraft or clean white — then the finish by the contents, plain for dry goods and barrier-treated where oil or moisture must be held out or a heat seal is needed. Request samples to trial on your own line, and we will recommend a starting grade.

Bofeng New Materials supplies food-grade kraft paper, natural-brown and white, plain and barrier-treated, in rolls or sheets to paper converters and food-packaging producers worldwide.
