What is water-based coated white kraft paper

White kraft paper starts as a bright, clean bleached kraft sheet. A water-based coating is applied to the surface to close the paper against water, oil and grease, replacing the plastic film or wax used on conventional coated packaging papers. The finished paper keeps the clean white look and printing surface of white kraft while gaining the resistance needed for greasy or moist foods.

Key material properties

• Water and grease resistance. The water-based coating keeps water, oil and grease from soaking into the fibre, so a coated bag or wrapper holds up with fried, baked or moist contents and the printed outer surface stays clean.
• Clean white, printable surface. The bleached kraft base is bright and even, and the coated surface prints cleanly with good ink adhesion — a white canvas for flexographic, gravure and offset brand printing.
• A practical alternative to plastic lamination. Because the barrier is a water-based coating rather than a plastic film, the paper stays repulpable and recyclable in standard paper streams and is coated with low solvent emissions.
• Converting and forming. The coated sheet creases, folds, slits and die-cuts cleanly, so converters form bags and wrappers on standard bag-making and packaging lines.
