Direct thermal stock is chosen against four variables: the print head energy, the required image life, the environment the label travels through, and whether anything will rub against it.
- Top-coated (TOP) thermal — a protective top coat resists water, oil, plasticiser and abrasion, and extends legible life to years. Specify this where labels meet handling, moisture or fatty products.
- Standard thermal — economical grades for short-life applications such as shipping labels and scale tickets.
- Colour and pre-printed thermal — for retail and promotional use.
