Fried chicken, burgers and just-baked pastries leave the counter hot and carrying oil. The bag that packs them has to hold that oil on the paper — not let it soak through to the bench, the order and the customer's hand. A takeaway bag for oily food earns its keep in the first few minutes, and greaseproof paper is how it stays clean, dry and easy to hold.
We supply greaseproof paper bags for exactly that job: virgin wood pulp in food-contact-safe grades, with an oil-resistant surface treatment, so oil and butter stop at the surface instead of bleeding through. They suit fried and takeaway counters, bakery displays and high-oil snacks — plain or custom printed, heat-sealable or hand-folded, in sizes matched to your portions.
Where Greaseproof Paper Bags Are Used
Anywhere hot, oily or buttery food is packed and handed over in a bag:
- Fast-food takeaway — burgers, fried chicken, fries and wraps packed hot to go.
- Bakery counters — bread, cakes, biscuits and pastries whose butter and fillings must not mark the bag, the counter or the customer.
- Fried and high-oil snacks — fried items and oily snack packs, including fried bento and portion packs.
- Deli and cooked-food counters — hot and freshly prepared items collected to take away.
- Noodle and light takeaway — noodles, rice and dry-tossed dishes where sauce stays off hands and outer bags.
Greaseproof bags are also used for portioning and prep in food-processing and food-handling areas, where goods are packed at ambient temperature — they are not a cold-chain transport liner, so frozen logistics should be specified separately.
Key Features
Oil stays on the paper, not on your hands
The oil-resistant surface treatment holds oil and butter at the surface, so the bag does not bleed through. Takeaways stay clean to carry, counters stay clean to work, and printed branding keeps its edge even with a hot, oily order inside.
Food-contact-safe grades as the default
The bags are from virgin wood pulp in food-contact-safe grades and carry no optical brighteners, so direct contact with bread, pastries and fried items is covered; compliance documents are provided offline on request.
A firm structure that heat-seals and prints cleanly
The paper is firm enough to hold its shape through the counter and the street without slumping or tearing at the seams, and it heat-seals on automated lines or folds cleanly by hand for fast, consistent packing. A smooth surface takes your logo and product messaging cleanly.
Eco-minded by design, custom when you need it
Greaseproof paper without plastic coating is single-material: it composts in industrial facilities and can be recycled with paper where local programmes accept it. Sizes, printing, paper weight and closures are made to order.

How to Select and Order
- Match the greaseproof grade to how oily the food is — standard greaseproof holds everyday fried and buttery goods; for very oily products held for a long time, a lined or composite construction can be offered.
- Match the size to the portion and how it is served — individual portions, counter sales and multi-item takeaway each take a different format.
- Send the product type, dimensions, plain or printed, and quantity; we confirm the specification before you order. Request samples to test oil holdout and printing on your own product.
MOQ, lead time and freight depend on grade, size and quantity — send your spec and we will quote.
FAQ
- Can greaseproof paper bags go in the oven? — No. They are rated for oil holdout at serving temperature, not for high heat or direct oven use. For baking straight in the oven, use parchment paper bags instead.
- Are they safe in contact with food? — Yes — they are from virgin wood pulp in food-contact-safe grades with no optical brighteners; compliance documents are provided offline on request.
- How oily a product can they hold? — Everyday fried and buttery items pass without staining through. They are not for very heavy oil held over long periods; for extremely oily contents we can suggest a liner or a composite construction — tell us the product.
- Can they be heat-sealed? — Yes, greaseproof bags heat-seal at 120–160 °C for machine or hand packing; sizes, printing and paper weight are made to order.
- Are they recyclable or compostable? — Single-material greaseproof paper with no plastic coating is industrially compostable and can be recycled with paper where local programmes accept it; check local rules for your area.
