Water-based coated aluminised paper is a coated barrier base paper we supply in rolls or sheets to paper converters and food-packaging producers. A vacuum-metallising and transfer process deposits an extremely thin metallic aluminium layer — typically around 0.02–0.04 μm — onto the paper surface. That layer turns an everyday coated paper into a high-barrier stock that blocks oxygen, moisture vapour, other gases and light, while the sheet keeps the flexibility and converting behaviour a packaging line needs.

What is water-based coated aluminised paper

Water-based coated aluminised paper — also referred to as aluminium barrier paper — is a coated paper carrying a metallic aluminium layer applied by vacuum and transfer technology. At roughly 0.02–0.04 μm the metal is a fraction of the thickness of foil lamination, so the paper stays light and flexible, slits and folds cleanly, and takes on a bright metallic surface. The base paper, grammage and gloss level are matched to the final use.

Key material properties

• Strong gas barrier. The aluminium layer resists oxygen, water vapour and other gases, which keeps contents fresh and extends shelf life — the property converters rely on in high-barrier food formats.
• Light and radiant-heat reflection. The bright metallic surface reflects light and radiant heat, protecting contents that are sensitive to light and adding a degree of insulation in brief-heat situations such as hot-food delivery.
• Low metal weight, converting-friendly. Because the layer is only about 0.02–0.04 μm, metal per square metre is a small fraction of foil-laminated paper; the sheet stays light and flexible and slits, folds and forms cleanly.
• Printability and gloss options. The aluminium surface accepts printing and is supplied in several metallic gloss levels, so the finish follows the package design.
• Broad base-paper range. The process runs on base papers and boards from light papers to heavier boards, so the barrier is graded to the package type.
• Food-contact suitability. Food-contact-suitable grades meet international food-contact safety requirements; supporting compliance documentation is available offline on request.
