What is water-based coated burger wrapper paper

A burger wrapper needs to hold a hot, greasy portion without letting oil reach hands, bags or tables. In water-based coated wrapper paper that job is done by the sheet itself: a lightweight virgin-fibre base is coated with a thin water-based barrier where a PE film would otherwise be laminated on. Because the barrier is applied as a coating rather than a film, the paper keeps a clean printing surface, folds crisply along the wrapper crease, and stays easier to handle in repulping and paper-recycling streams where such collection is available.

Key material properties

• Oil and grease resistance. The water-based coating forms a dense barrier across the fibre surface, so oil from a hot burger or fried portion stays on the sheet instead of soaking through — hands, bags and tables stay clean, and the food keeps its heat and appearance.
• Moisture resistance. The same coating slows water and steam passing through the paper, so a wrapper holds its shape and strength when it touches hot, moist food or is used for take-away.
• Heat stability in typical service. The coated sheet performs reliably at the heat of freshly served hot food and at the normal reheating levels of food-service microwaves, without softening the sheet or smearing the print. The practical heat ceiling depends on the base grammage and the coating recipe, so the grade is matched to the end use.
• Printability. The smooth coated surface gives even ink hold-out, so brand colours, logos and food-handling messages print cleanly on flexographic, offset or gravure lines.
• Converting and folding. The light sheet scores and folds cleanly on high-speed wrapper lines, and can be sheeted, die-cut or slit to the exact wrapper blank.
• Food-contact safety. The coated paper is made with food-grade materials for direct food-contact wrapping and meets international food-contact safety requirements; supporting documentation for compliance review is available offline on request.
