Barbecue paper base is a food-contact base paper built for the heat and grease of grilling. It is the stock converters slit into rolls, cut into sheets or die-cut into barbecue tray liners, grill sheets and meat wrapping paper — the working base behind the barbecue paper used in kitchens and households for grilling and barbecue cooking.

As a paper supplier and sourcing partner, Bofeng offers barbecue paper base in rolls or sheets, plain or printed. Tell us how you convert and the grill formats your customers serve, and we will match grammage, width and surface finish to your line.

What is barbecue paper base

Barbecue paper base starts from clean, food-grade virgin wood pulp and is made into a dense, even sheet that resists oil and stays stable under the heat of grilling while in contact with food. It is a base paper rather than a finished barbecue product: converters size it to the end use — tray liners, grill sheets or wrap — and may apply a release finish or print a brand before it reaches the user. What matters to the buyer is how the finished sheet behaves: food lifts off without sticking, juices and rendered fat stay where they should, and the paper keeps its strength while the food cooks.

Key material properties

  • Heat stability in grilling use. The sheet holds up at the heat levels of ordinary grilling and barbecue cooking — beneath a roast, over a tray, around wrapped meat — without turning brittle or cracking. The practical limit depends on the grammage and finish of the base paper and on how far it sits from the heat source, so the grade is matched to the end use.
  • Oil and moisture hold-out. The dense sheet structure holds back meat juices, marinades and rendered fat, so a liner or wrapper protects the food and keeps the surface beneath clean.
  • Food release. The smooth surface releases cooked meat and seafood cleanly, which suits tray liners and wraps that must come away without sticking.
  • Strength and converting. The sheet carries wrapped or heavier food without tearing in normal use, and it slits, sheets and die-cuts cleanly on automated converting lines.
  • Food-contact safety. Food-grade materials meet international food-contact safety requirements; supporting documentation for compliance review is available offline on request.

Supply forms and options

  • Rolls or sheets, white or coloured, plain or with a release finish.
  • Custom grammage, slit widths and printing on request.

Typical end uses

Because it resists heat, oil and sticking, barbecue paper base is commonly converted into:

  • Barbecue tray liners and grill sheets
  • Sheets placed between food and the grill grate for barbecue cooking
  • Wrap for meat, poultry, seafood and vegetables cooked on barbecue and grill equipment
  • Liners for disposable grill pans and catering trays
  • Interleaving sheets for marinated, pre-cooked or seasoned meat lines

How to choose and order

Barbecue paper base is supplied by grammage and width to match a converting line. For barbecue-paper converters and food-packaging producers we stock food-grade base grades in the common basis-weight range and print, sheet or slit to order. Request samples to trial on your own line — tell us the end use, the format (roll or sheet) and the grammage you need, and we will recommend a starting grade.
