Food-grade White Kraft Paper

Food-grade white kraft paper is a bright white kraft base paper made from bleached pulp and supplied uncoated. It is the clean, printable white sheet behind white food bags, takeout bags and bakery packaging — the stock converters print, sheet, slit and fold into finished food-contact paper.

What is food-grade white kraft paper

White kraft paper starts from bleached kraft pulp rather than unbleached brown pulp. Bleaching lifts the natural brown shade and leaves a clean, even, bright white sheet that keeps the strength of kraft fibre. This grade is supplied plain and uncoated — no surface coating, film or lamination — so it does not carry the grease- and moisture-hold-out work of coated or laminated grades. Where a white paper also has to resist grease or moisture, the water-based coated white kraft grade is the step up (see Related).

Key material properties

• Bright, even white surface. The bleached kraft base is clean and uniform in shade, so printed colours stand out with good contrast on a white ground.
• Kraft strength. Long kraft fibres keep up tensile strength, burst resistance and tear resistance, so bags and wrappers hold their contents without tearing on the line.
• Clean printability. The even surface takes ink well across offset, flexographic and gravure printing, for brand colours and fine detail.
• Converting and forming. The sheet slits, sheets, folds, creases and die-cuts cleanly on standard bag-making and packaging lines.
• Food-contact safety. Grades for direct food packaging meet food-contact safety requirements; supporting documentation for compliance review is available offline on request.

How to choose and order

Food-grade white kraft is supplied by grammage and width to match a converting line. Lighter grades suit bakery bags, pouches and box liners; heavier grades suit takeout and carrier bags. Choose this plain white grade when a bright, printable white surface is the priority. Where the pack must also keep grease or moisture out, move up to the water-based coated white kraft grade rather than laminating this sheet separately.
