Shell-on prawns and peeled shrimp do not stay dry on their own. From the moment they are weighed and packed they weep a sticky, protein-rich juice, and every minute spent in that pooled liquid costs you: shells soften and turn dull, peeled shrimp meat loses its gloss and firmness, dark patches spread along the shell, and the tray looks tired before it reaches the shelf.

Shrimp absorbent pads sit under the product and take that liquid away as it appears. The absorption core is built for the thick, protein-heavy drip of shrimp and prawns, not just water, so the pack stays dry, shells keep their colour and shape, and your product still looks right when it reaches the export pack or the retail shelf.

Where Shrimp Absorbent Pads Are Used

Wherever fresh, chilled or frozen shrimp and prawns are handled in a tray, box or export carton:

  • Processing and packing lines — grading and sorting lines, tray packing of quick-frozen shrimp, and pads under peeled prawn meat.
  • Cold-chain storage and shipping — liners for insulated boxes, layer dividers in cartons, and air-freight export packs for shell-on and peeled product.
  • Retail and fresh e-commerce — seafood-counter trays, market displays and last-mile delivery packs where first glance decides the sale.

Key Features

Fast uptake made for shrimp drip

The top layer pulls the viscous tissue fluid of shrimp and prawns away quickly and holds it in the inner core, so it does not seep back even when trays are stacked. Peeled shrimp shed the most, so a high-absorbency grade is the usual choice there.

Keeps shells firm, bright and intact

Removing the standing juice stops shell-on product from turning mushy and dull, and slows the darkening that starts on damp shells. Peeled meat keeps a cleaner, glossier look, and less pooled liquid means less odour and cross-pack contamination.

Built for the whole cold chain

Pads keep absorbing and stay flexible from -25 °C to 4 °C, so they perform in blast freezing, reefer containers and air freight. Wet-strength materials hold together after absorbing, and the surface resists puncture from shell spikes.

Food-contact safety

Pads are made from food-grade materials that meet international food-contact safety requirements and are non-toxic and odour-free for direct contact with shrimp and prawns.

How to Select and Order

  • Choose absorbency by product form — peeled shrimp and high-count packs shed more than whole shell-on prawns; grades run medium or high within 25–350 ml per pad.
  • Match the pad footprint to the tray or carton base so liquid is caught before it spreads.
  • Tell us whether you pack by hand or on a line, plus your cold-chain window, and we will recommend the starting specification.

MOQ, lead time and sample shipping depend on size and volume — send your tray dimensions, product form and target market and we will quote accordingly.

FAQ

Are these pads safe for direct food contact?

Yes. They are made from food-grade materials that meet international food-contact safety requirements. Ask us about the documentation needed for your market's compliance review.

Can size, fabric and absorbency be customised?

Yes. Absorbency can be set medium or high (25–350 ml per pad), and size, fabric (PE film, mesh PE or non-woven) and colour can be matched to your tray and product.

Do they hold up in frozen and cold-chain shipment?

Yes. The pads are designed to stay flexible and absorbent from -25 °C to 4 °C and are used in blast-frozen, reefer and air-freight export packaging.

Can I get samples before ordering?

Yes. Request samples for a trial pack — send your product form, tray dimensions and line speed and we will recommend a starting specification.
