A doily does two jobs at once: it separates the food from whatever is under it, and it does the presenting. That is why it turns up under a basket of fried chicken as often as under a cake. We die-cut lace-edge doilies in 15 stock sizes — round, oval and rectangular — in white paper with a double-side silicone coating.
Where Paper Doilies Are Used
- Fried-food baskets and takeaway trays — the doily takes the first of the oil and gives the portion an edge.
- Cake boards and pastry display — under tiered cakes, gateaux and sliced portions in a cabinet.
- Catering platters and buffets — separating canapés, sandwiches and sliced meats on a shared board.
- Retail bakery packaging — inside a box, or under cling-packed items.
- Table service — under glasses, small plates and dessert dishes.
For the liner that goes under a whole tray rather than a portion, see Greaseproof Placemat Paper; for wrapping see Greaseproof Food Wrapping Paper. The full line sits under Baking & Food Paper.
Key Features
A lace edge that survives the stack
The cut edge is what makes a doily a doily, so it has to stay crisp through the die, through a stack of a hundred and through the food being set on it. A torn or ragged scallop is immediately visible under a plate.
Silicone on both faces
Double-side coating means the doily releases from the basket and from the pastry, and a doily laid the other way up still releases.
White, with no optical brighteners
The paper is white without optical brightening agents, so it stays neutral against hot oil and does not read blue under display lighting.
Two size units, on purpose
Round and oval sizes are quoted in inches because that is how the trade specifies them; rectangular sizes are quoted in centimetres. Keep the unit with the number when ordering — this is the most common mix-up on the item.
Technical Specifications
The stock range covers the shapes and sizes sold to foodservice and bakery channels:
- White food-grade paper with a double-side silicone coating
- Lace-cut edge; round, oval and rectangular
- 15 stock sizes: 9 round, 3 oval, 3 rectangular
- No optical brightening agents
- Packed to your count and to your channel
Sizes outside the stock list, other lace patterns, coloured paper and printed doilies are made to order. Send the tray, cake board or basket the doily has to fit.
Sizes and formats
Choose the shape first, then keep the size unit explicit. Match the doily to the tray or board, then check a sample with the food in place to see how much of the lace border stays visible.
| Shape | Sizes | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| Round | 4.5 / 5.5 / 6.5 / 7.5 / 8.5 / 9.5 / 10.5 / 12 / 12.5 | inch, diameter |
| Oval | 6.5 × 9 / 7.5 × 10 / 8.5 × 12.5 | inch |
| Rectangular | 19 × 30 / 25 × 35 / 30 × 40 | cm |
A doily has to be larger than the food and smaller than the tray. If it overruns the tray, the lace edge disappears under the rim and the point of the item is lost.
How to Select and Order
- Match the shape to the vessel: round for baskets and cake boards, oval for platters, rectangular for trays.
- Size up one step when the doily sits under a full portion — the border has to stay visible once the food is on.
- Quote the unit with the number: inches for round and oval, centimetres for rectangular.
- Decide whether the doily is functional or decorative in your pack — that sets the count per bag and the pack format.
- Send shape, size, pack count and destination — request a quote or sample and we will confirm paper, die and documents.

FAQ
Which shapes and how many sizes are there?
Round, oval and rectangular — 15 stock sizes in total: 9 round, 3 oval and 3 rectangular.
What is the coating?
White paper with a double-side silicone coating, so it releases from the food and from the tray.
Can we have our own lace pattern or a print?
Yes. A new lace pattern needs its own die; printing is quoted against the artwork and the run length.
Are the doilies available in colours other than white?
White is the stock colour. Coloured paper is available to order.
