Food-grade placemat paper is a smooth, food-contact base paper supplied mainly in sheets — the stock converters print, die-cut and finish into placemats, tray liners and table liners for food service. It is a plain base rather than a coated finished paper: clean, bright and built for printing, with the moisture- and grease-resistance that a working placemat needs normally added at the converting stage — as an optional surface treatment on the grade we supply, or as a coating applied downstream to match the end use.

What is food-grade placemat paper

Food-grade placemat paper starts from clean, food-grade pulp and is made into a smooth, uniform sheet that takes ink well and die-cuts with clean edges. The base itself is plain; where a finished placemat must stand up to water or grease, converters add the barrier at the converting stage — a coating, lamination or other surface treatment — or ask for one of the optionally surface-treated grades we can arrange. What the paper delivers is a food-contact-safe, printable foundation for the placemat printer.

Key material properties

• Printability. The smooth, even surface takes ink cleanly, so logos, menus and promotional messages reproduce in clean, saturated colour.
• Clean converting. The sheet cuts, slits and die-cuts without dusting at the edges, keeping converting lines running steadily.
• Flatness and strength in use. The grade has enough body to lie flat on a table without curling and to stay intact through a meal.
• Food-contact safety. Food-grade materials meet international food-contact safety requirements; supporting documentation for compliance review is available offline on request.
• Optional surface treatment. Where a finished placemat must resist moisture or grease, the sheet can be supplied with an appropriate surface treatment, chosen to suit the end use and the printing process.
