The pad combines a fast-absorbing surface layer, a middle layer that regulates humidity and a base layer that resists backflow. The multi-layer microporous structure keeps the pack breathable but not wet, holding condensation in the pad instead of on the fruit.

By drawing away condensation and seeping juice, the pad stops the fruit sitting in a damp film. Mould needs that film to start, so a drier pack slows its spread without relying on chemistry alone; antimicrobial-treated versions are available on request.
