A sealed pack of leafy greens does its own damage. Between packing and opening, greens and mushrooms keep respiring: the pack sweats, condensation forms on the leaves and the film, and that trapped wetness is what yellows leaves, softens stems and feeds the soft rot and mold that turn a sound carton into a claim or a discount at the receiving end.

A vegetable absorbent pad sits under the load and draws that condensation away as it forms, holding the moisture in its core so the pack never dries the produce out. Leaves stay green and crisp, mushrooms stay firm, and pre-cut packs keep their cut faces clean through cold-chain transit and retail storage.

Where Vegetable Absorbent Pads Are Used

Wherever moisture-sensitive vegetables are packed for cold chain and retail — trays, clamshells, flow-wrap and export cartons:

  • Leafy greens — lettuce, spinach, mustard greens, Chinese cabbage, garland chrysanthemum and water spinach.
  • Mushrooms — button, enoki, shiitake and king oyster mushrooms, which are extremely sensitive to surface moisture.
  • Stem and fruit vegetables — celery, asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower and fresh corn.
  • Pre-washed and processed product — pre-cut vegetables, salad kits and ready-to-eat vegetable platters, which shed juice from their cut faces.

Key Features

Absorbs condensation before it reaches the leaves

The pad's drainage layer and high-efficiency absorbent core capture condensation droplets formed by temperature swings inside the pack, so leaves and stems are never left standing in water — the condition behind soft rot and downy mildew.

Keeps pack humidity in balance

By drawing off excess moisture it lowers the very high relative humidity that spoilage microbes need, while holding liquid in the core rather than wicking it from the vegetables — so greens neither rot in dampness nor wilt from over-drying.

Keeps mushrooms and pre-cut product firm and saleable

Moisture-sensitive lines such as mushrooms and celery turn soft and watery when left wet, and cut or salad vegetables bleed juice from their cut faces. The pad keeps surfaces drier, so mushrooms hold their shape, celery stays crisp and pre-cut packs look clean and fresh for longer.

Soft, breathable and food-contact safe

Food-grade materials meet international food-contact safety requirements and are non-toxic and odour-free for direct contact with vegetables. The soft pad does not bruise delicate leaves or caps, stays breathable, and keeps its shape when wet so it resists tearing under stacking.

Technical Specifications

Common specification set (carried in the field_specification below):

  • Absorbent capacity: 600–3,500 ml/m2
  • Roll: length 400–1,500 m, width 45–400 mm, diameter up to 1,200 mm
  • Sheet: length 80–450 mm, width 45–400 mm; other sizes available on request
  • Colour: white, black, red or customised

Size, grammage, absorbency and colour can be customised to your crop, pack format and packing line. Ask us for a datasheet with structure and absorption data matched to your vegetable type.

How to Select and Order

  • Match the pad footprint to the tray, clamshell or carton base, with the pad under the product so liquid is captured before it spreads.
  • Choose absorbency by crop: high-respiration lines such as leafy greens, mushrooms and pre-cut product need higher absorption.
  • Tell us the pack format, whether you pack by hand or on an automated line, and your cold-chain window, and we will recommend a specification.

MOQ, lead time and sample shipping depend on size and volume. Private-label printing is available for branded retail packs.

FAQ

Are these pads safe for direct food contact?

Yes. They use food-grade materials that meet international food-contact safety requirements. Ask us about documentation for your market's compliance review.

Do they work for mushrooms and other high-moisture vegetables?

Yes. The pad is designed for the condensation that high-respiration produce generates; choose a higher absorbency for mushrooms, leafy greens and cut product.

Can size, absorbency and colour be customised?

Yes — size, grammage, absorbency and colour can be adjusted to your pack and product type.

How do they behave in cold-chain and modified-atmosphere packs?

The pad is built to manage the condensation that cold chains generate, stays absorbent at low temperature and is widely used in chilled produce export packaging.

Can I get samples before ordering?

Yes. Request samples for a trial pack; send your product, pack format and line speed and we will recommend a starting specification.
