- Absorption rate: medium or high, approx. 25–350 ml per pad
- Fabric: customisable — PE film, mesh PE film, non-woven fabric and more
- Size and colour, matched to your tray, cut types and packing method
Lamb is a fatty meat, and it lets you know. As a freshly cut chop, rack or leg sits on a tray, blood and tissue fluids seep out and mix with rendered fat into a slick that pools under the product. Left there, that liquid dulls the colour, softens the surface and feeds spoilage — a weepy tray that shortens shelf life before it reaches the chiller cabinet or the export carton.
Lamb absorbent pads go under the meat and pull that blood-and-fat mix away from the surface as it appears. They are matched to the viscosity of lamb juices, not just water, so the tray stays dry, the meat keeps its rosy colour, and the lamb’s own flavour and tenderness are protected through packing, cold storage and transport.
Where Lamb Absorbent Pads Are Used
Lamb sits in a tray, box or export carton at nearly every step of the chilled and frozen chain:
- Lamb processors and cutting plants — tray liners after carcass chilling, cutting and deboning.
- Central kitchens and meat works — storage and distribution packs for chops, ribs, cubes and rolled lamb.
- Supermarkets and fresh stores — chilled and frozen lamb trays on display.
- Butcher shops and farmers’ markets — premium and locally sourced lamb.
- Cold-chain logistics — inside refrigerated containers and export cartons, to stop leaked juice soiling other packs.

Key Features
Absorbs blood and fat without re-wetting
The core is made for the mix of blood, tissue fluid and fat that lamb releases. It takes liquid in fast and holds it in the inner layer, so under stacking pressure the pad resists backflow and does not re-wet the meat.
Protects colour, tenderness and flavour
By removing the juice that pools around a cut, the pad keeps the surface dry and the colour rosy and reduces drip loss in the pack. With less moisture sitting against the meat, the cut’s own texture and taste come through — important for premium lamb.
Performs in chilled and frozen handling
The backing stays strong and flexible in cold, wet and frozen conditions and resists tearing without shedding fibres, so packs hold together through low-temperature storage and transport.
Food-contact safety
Food-grade materials meet international food-contact safety requirements and are odourless and free of migrating substances, so the lamb’s own flavour is unaffected. Antimicrobial-treated versions are available on request.
Technical Specifications
Common specification for lamb tray pads:
- Absorption rate: medium or high, approx. 25–350 ml per pad.
- Fabric: customisable — PE film, mesh PE film, non-woven fabric and more.
- Size and colour: customised to your tray and pack.
Tell us your tray dimensions, cut types and packing method, and we will confirm a starting specification. A datasheet with layer structure and absorption data is available on request.
How to Select and Order
- Match the pad footprint to the tray or carton base so liquid is captured before it spreads.
- Choose absorbency by product — bone-in and high-fat cuts release more blood and fat than trimmed lean.
- Tell us whether you pack by hand or on a line, plus your chilled or frozen window, and we will recommend a specification.
MOQ and lead time depend on size and volume — send your tray size and target shelf life and we will quote accordingly.
FAQ
Are these pads safe for direct food contact?
Yes. They use food-grade materials that meet international food-contact safety requirements. Ask us about documentation for your market’s compliance review.
Can size and absorbency be customised?
Yes — size, colour and absorption rate can be matched to your tray, cut types and packing method.
Do they work in chilled and frozen storage?
Yes. The pad stays flexible and absorbent at low temperature and is widely used in chilled and frozen lamb packing.
Can I get samples before ordering?
Yes. Request samples for a trial pack — send your product type, tray dimensions and line speed and we will recommend a starting specification.
