MF Tissue Paper

MF tissue paper is a machine-finished paper — an ultra-thin, fine-fibred sheet that is smooth on both sides. Finished on both faces rather than machine-glazed to a single glossy side, it has an even, unglazed surface, and it prints and folds the same whichever way it runs.

What is MF tissue paper

MF stands for machine-finished. The sheet is pressed and dried between smooth surfaces and run through the finishing stack, so both sides come out smooth and even, instead of one side being glazed to a mirror finish as on MG (machine-glazed) tissue. The two faces behave alike, so a converter does not have to track a front and a back side through a press or a folder. Fine, evenly formed fibres give the paper a soft hand and a light translucency that veils its contents in a soft silhouette.

Key material properties

• Both-sides-smooth machine finish. Both sides are evenly finished and unglazed, so MF tissue prints, folds and laminates consistently on either face and keeps one uniform, non-glossy look.
• Fine-fibre translucency. Fine, close fibres and even formation make a sheet that is ultra-thin and semi-translucent, quietly showing what is wrapped inside.
• Strength at light weight. At 15 and 17 gsm the sheet keeps enough body and tear resistance to wrap, fold and run through converting lines without tearing at the first pull.
• Soft, drapable hand. Soft and flexible with a natural drape, the sheet settles around a gift box, a bouquet or folded garments instead of standing stiff.
• Even print take-up. The smooth surface takes flexo, offset and other inks evenly, keeping print clean and legible even at low grammage.
• Clean natural fibre. Made from natural wood fibre and free of fluorescent brightening agents, MF tissue is biodegradable and recyclable.

Typical end uses

Because of its balanced two-sided finish and light strength, MF tissue is commonly converted into:

• Gift and flower-wrap tissue, gift-box and jewellery-packaging liners
• Garment interlining and shirt separators, tissue between folded textiles
• Craft and hobby sheets for paper art, album interleaving and decorative packing
• Light food interleaving and wrapping — a thin layer between confectionery, baked goods or produce
• Candy and chocolate twist wraps, used as a light paper in confectionery wrapping
